December opens with two holidays a day apart, Monday the 6th and Wednesday the 8th, with the Tuesday between them an ordinary working day; the Inmaculada is kept at Betancuria. Christmas Day then falls on the Saturday and New Year's Eve on the Friday, so both of the month's big nights are followed by a free morning. The month's Christmas programme is announced in October and November, and none of it is dated yet.

Why go: Betancuria keeps the Inmaculada in the island's first capital: a solemn Mass in Santa María on the 8th, and in recent editions the days before it have brought dramatisations and a children's party.
